Zapfino font for free?

 2

Mar 04, 2014 at 17:21

You know what I bet is not illegal? Tracing the font in Dreamweaver and making minor tweaks to each letter and then renaming it and posting in on a free font website. Is it? It's technically your custom font then that you can to what you please with, right?

Next time try to remember what you are talking about. Does help.

Also with Illustrator you can not make a font. But then, you do not really know what a font is, do you, ehhh ...

Not directly, but it can be constructed there and created though other channels. I will be sure to make a modified free font of not only zapfino, but also monogram, open Egmont, dwigglins initials, ea sports covers, gotica moderna, fontenay fancy, hk display, monotoon, obese & square, ml rainbow, ml zigzag, ml roxy initials and ml sunglow.

You don't HAVE to be an asshole..... It is a choice. If you are looking for respect with your attitude, you're going about it the wrong way.

You make fonts.... laddee-freakin-da.....I'm sure you'll get a special prize for that when you die. *eye roll*

At least when I have a question I know what forum NOT to go to now. I'm sure this site appreciates that.

Due to the stupidity of some American software developers a digital typeface is now considered a font. As a result stupid American assholes think that they know something while in fact they know shit.

Drown or kill yourself otherwise dumbo.

.ttf = "true type font"
.otf = "open type font"

it does not say "true type digital typeface" or "open type digital typeface".

If I can select it from the list of fonts in my software, it's close enough to a font for my liking.

I may not remember the entire history based on how a "font" is defined from when I went to college, but at least I'm not a holier than thou prick with a chip on my shoulder for people simply looking for help or seeking answers. I don't have to look at that asshole in the mirror every morning. You do.

Isn't drowning yourself also killing yourself? Why would you have to differentiate them when they are the same thing?...... I'm the dumbo?!

This conversation is over.

The next post like this from you will get you a ten day ban from the forum, koeiekat. You know that I can do that, with a couple of mouse clicks. Consider this to be your yellow card.

@trienz: To quote you, "This conversation is over." Don't reopen it, in this thread, or another one in the English forum. If you want to spar with the cat, do it in the French, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese forums. I don't read those. You're in thin ice, as well.

If either of you think I'm bluffing, try me.

I did.... I did do that, sorry.

Let me start over and ignore anything negative.

Does anyone know if there is a reason why zapfino is part of the Mac OS software, but cannot be obtained without purchasing a license for PC?

From MyFonts:

"Today’s digital font technology has allowed renowned type designer Hermann Zapf to realise a dream he first had more than fifty years ago: to create a fully calligraphic typeface. Zapf began work on Zapfino in 1993, in technical collaboration with David Siegel and Gino Lee, who were responsible for the initial digitization. The initial PostScript and TrueType versions were completed and released by Linotype as a set of six fonts. The current Zapfino ‘megafont’ for Apple Advanced Typography (AAT) and Open Type was built for Linotype Library by Tiro Typeworks. The new version includes additional diacritic characters for the Latin script languages of Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic states, and Turkey.

Zapfino consists of four basic alphabets, with many additional stylistic alternates, which can be freely mixed together to emulate the variations in handwritten text. Because of the complexity of the design of Zapfino some tips on its use might be helpful:

1) When it is necessary to set words in all uppercase letters, such as abbreviations in text, use only the basic Zapfino capitals with plenty of letter spacing.

2) The more extravagant swash variants, especially those with long flowing ascenders and descenders, should be used sparingly. They should accentuate and ornament the text, not overpower it.

3) Although every care has been taken to carefully space and kern the Zapfino characters, and most variants can be freely mixed, some combinations of letters inevitably look better than others. Take the time to choose variants that will create pleasing word shapes and, in particular, beware of colliding descenders.

4) Line spacing, or leading, should be generous, to allow room for the many long ascenders and descenders. The longest of these might be best reserved for the first and last line of text, respectively, where they can flow freely into the upper and lower margin.

MyFonts only sells the original six weights/styles. The following others are probably in the ATT megafont:

ZapfinoExtraLT-Alternate
ZapfinoExtraLT-One
ZapfinoExtraLT-Two
ZapfinoExtraLT-Three
ZapfinoExtraLT-Four
ZapfinoExtraLT-Ligatures
ZapfinoExtraLT-Ornaments
ZapfinoExtraLT-Pro
ZapfinoExtraLT-SmCaps
ZapfinoForteLT-One
ZapfinoForteLT-Alternate
ZapfinoForteLT-Pro

If there are any others, I don't have them.

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen originally released at least two weights, (One and Two), around 1999, but perhaps only in .ttf.

you have to pay over $50 to get a font for windows that comes with Mac OSX free?!

It's not "for free", it's included in the price of the OSX.

Don't feed the trolls, sweeep. I'm not going to give you a green card, because that would allow you to legally work in the United States.
