Looking for font most similar to Phenix American (from "got milk?")

Apr 20, 2014 at 06:12

I am making fundraiser tshirts for my daughter and I'm doing a take-off on the "got milk?" campaign. The font used on the actual campaign is Phenix American and I'm looking for a free version of that font or one that is closest to that style.
It's not too distinct other than the letters are slightly elongated. I need to provide the font for the silkscreener and I need to keep costs down as much as possible. Thanks for your help.

The original Phenix typeface was made in 1935 by Morris Fuller Benton.
When you want the 'got milk' style why not go for the Got Milk: http://myfonts.us/td-iERZ73 Only 13 dollar and you get the correct a.
13 dollar still to much for your daughter? Then go hunting for PCSunshoe or RSPhoenix, identical and very badly made letterspacing - not something that you can easily solve. Dan X. Solo made a very usable version and named it properly PhoenixAmerican. WSI made a somewhat less condensed version and named it Protege and Arizona. NovelFonts! Corp. made a Light version and baptized it Phaeton and Castcraft did the same but named it OPTIPhoenix-Nine. To leave it at this, CompuWorks made a very condensed version and for one reason or another named it after the Russian wolfhound, Borzoi.

All versions mentioned here, except for Got Milk, are from extinct font sellers. Have fun in the jungle out there. Tip: Never ever download a font that comes as an .exe file. You will be very sorry, have to clean-up your machine and do a system restore. I figure you do not like that and there is no need, plenty of .zip and .rar around.
