Fontspace approval?

Mar 19, 2021 at 02:22

Hi all, I know this isn't related to Dafont and I apologize but fontspace has no forum and has very little information on their site and they aren't responding to my messages lol. So does anyone else upload their fonts to fontspace and about how long do they take to approve your fonts? My first 3 went through very quickly but my next 3 are taking a long time to be approved. Would love to know what your experiences have been with this. Thanks in advance!

When I uploaded fonts on Fontspace, (not since 2012), there was no approval process, submissions were posted almost immediately. At that time, they probably had a program that would check to make sure the submission was not a commercial font. Being the author of a 'free to download' font was not a submission requirement.

I would call them a 'family friendly' site. My font BeautyMarks has over 430,000 downloads here, but they removed it from Fontspace about a year after it was posted there. If they had sent me an e-mail saying why the font was removed, I would have continued to upload later fonts to that site. I didn't remove the ones already there, some of which are not posted on dafont.

Oh that's interesting. I reached out to another designer on fontspace and he said that it takes about a week to have each of their fonts approved but mine have been sitting unapproved for a few weeks now. I wonder if there is something wrong with my account or something, I wish they would respond to my messages and let me know what's up.

The last font I submitted there in late 2018 was online upon submission. It is possible that Fontspace had some policy changes and are now validating fonts before making them available for download. The site owner might have some help now because it was a one-man affair then. It won't be good for the site if you download fonts that have bad spacing. It is also very easy to abuse that "instant gratification" feature.

Fontspace always respond whenever I reached out to them. I use the site's contact form. The link is at the footer of every page.

Hmm, I see. All of my fonts are properly kerned and spaced so I don't think that's an issue for me. My first two submissions took a few days to go live but the rest have been in review for nearly a month.

I used the site's contact form from the link in the footer a few weeks ago and asked them how long approval took and never heard back from them. When was the last time you contacted them and had a response?

I had a short chat with the owner of Fontspace around the time I submitted my font, Sabbath Paranoid, there. I'm not sure if I still have that email. I might have deleted it already.

I first submitted my font here at Dafont and when it was approved, I then submitted it to Fontspace so that the font will be out on the same day. There was no delay there at that time. It appears that there is now. I have not submitted any of my fonts anywhere after Sabbath Paranoid. All fonts I've done after that are for personal use only.

I have seen new fonts posted there today. If you still don't see your font online. I think it's time for you to inquire if there is any problem with the font you submitted.

Keep in mind that my information was current as of nine years ago.

Everything I know about making fonts, except for what I learned on my own through trial and error, is from toto@k22. Some of that knowledge is contained in his past postings in the dafont forums. FontKawaiiCo, In my opinion, it would be a good investment of your time to selectively scan through toto@k22's posting history, and I have no doubt that at least half of the next seven questions you have will already have been answered in one or more of his posts.
