handwritten font

One of my designers _thinks_ this font was digitized for us, years ago, from someone's handwriting. I think it looks familiar in a context other than my current employer, so I'm not sure about that. Unfortunately, I can't find any documentation to support either case, and Googling "handwritten font" (the font files are just named "handwritten") doesn't provide useful results. If it's actually a commercial font, I'm hoping somebody here will recognize it! :-)

The name of the font in your sample is actually 'Handwriting'. It is very - if not extremely - similar to WSI's HandScript so they can easily be seen as the same but your sample has the b and r from Handwriting.
The font Handwriting has no information whatsoever about the creator, copyright or trademark.
WSI's HandScript was copied and renamed to GE HandyScript in 1999 by Graphx Edge.

Somewhat more digging revealed that Handwriting was 'created' (how do I dare use the word in this context?) 2008? by Sam Wang, a notorious cloner of existing fonts: http://www.fontspace.com/sam-wang

Be careful out there, there are several different fonts named Handwriting.

Thanks for the research, koeiekat!

Now I'm wondering if someone here renamed Handwriting to Handwritten at some point in the past to avoid confusion, because we have another "Handwriting" font in the library (also w/ no documentation of provenance). I'll post that one next.

I've been on a quest to ensure that I can document our ownership of any font that we use (especially complicated now that most foundries are charging additional embedding fees if you want to use the fonts in ebooks), and this one was driving me crazy. And we've had this particular font for at least 12 years, so it certainly couldn't have been "created" by Sam Wang three years ago. What do you know about Graphx Edge? Are they legit? If they're legit, I'll just license Handy Script from them, change to that, and be done with it.

Thanks again for the help! I'll post my other mystery handwriting/written/scripty thing later today.

One of your designers seems to be wrong, unless 'years ago' means before 1994. Otherwise, if it was sold to you as an exclusive someone may have some easy money.

If you send me a copy of the one you say is named Handwritten I'll have a look at it if you like.
